By Hannah Parry For Dailymail. Parents are furious after a Utah high school’s ‘sexist dating assignment’ which told female students they should be ‘ladylike’ and not to waste their date’s money. Girls were also told to ‘be feminine’, ‘show respect’ and ‘if you think you’re too fat, keep it to yourself’, in the ‘Suggestions for the girls’ handouts by Highland High School in Salt Lake City, Utah.
But some parents have slammed the assignment as ‘sexist’ on social media. Mother Jenn Oxborrow posted a photo of the two handouts — one for girls and one for boys — on Facebook. Highland Principal Chris Jenson told the Salt Lake Tribune that the assignment was set as part of the adult roles and financial literacy class – a mandatory class needed to graduate. He added that the date instructions were written by students of the opposite sex, and that the teacher, who he did not name, had instructed her students to take their own interpretation of the ‘date’ whether it be romantic or time spent with a friend.
But Oxborrow’s daughter Lucy Mulligan, 16, says that it appeared in class that a traditional date was mandatory. It is not clear where the assignment originated from as teachers can upload their own lesson plans to the database.

For many teenagers, getting a date is hard enough — let alone if your high school grades depend on it. School administrators in Salt Lake City went into damage control mode Tuesday after a parent’s complaint about her daughter’s assignment gained attention through social media. The handouts included suggestions for appropriate date behavior, submitted by members of the opposite gender, including guidance that girls should try to eat the food they order and not waste their date’s money, and that boys should refrain from “gross noises.
And “if you think you’re too fat,” the assignment instructs female students, “keep it to yourself.
